Alive and Kicking

Things are still chugging along. It's been a crazy week.

I got a chance to see Spring Awakening after the tour of the Met on Wednesdsay and found it absolutely fantastic. I felt that the production fortunately steered away from the commercial values of modern Broadway musicals. The story was impactful--simple yet very moving and kept you looking back on your life. The show is unique in its way of conveying an old story in a new and contemporary way. The music is unlike any I have heard in a musical.

Friday, we opened Purchase Repertory Theatre's production of Measure for Measure, for which I painted some of the scenery. I'll try to get some photos.

Last, I'll leave you with another Design Fundamentals project. This one wasn't as well received as I'd hoped:

Back in Business

Hey, it's been a while, so here's a quick update.

Started my 2nd semester at Purchase and things are going well. Schedule is lot more hectic than last semester. Going to get a backstage tour of the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center on Wednesday, so I'm looking forward to that.

Over the break, I worked on A Good Look at Boney Kern at the Montgomery Theater. Go see it!

I'm currently working on Measure for Measure, The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui, and The Corronation of Poppea at Purchase. I'm on paint deck.

Other than that, nothing too exciting. Here's the latest Design Fund projects.

By the Bog of Cats

Some photos I took from the grid of Purchase Repertory Theatre's production of By the Bog of Cats. (I was an electrician and followspot op).

Can I go to the weddin'?

"Happy" wedding dinner.

I have no choice but to wage vicious war against ya'.

Hester, don't do something stupid!!!

Please Hester!

You're leavin' today!

Somewhere ya' can never return from.

It's just an old fishin' knife, Josie.

But I want to be where you'll be.

Can't I go with ya 'mam?

It's alright Josie, it's alright.

By the Bog of Cats, I someday will return, in mortal form...

or in ghostly form.

Take me away from here.

Take me away, Mr. Ghost Fancier.

Hester! She's carved out her heart, and it's lyin' on her chest like some dark-feathered bird.

Curtain call.

Update: Gregio is Alive!

For those of you who have been wondering what theatrical experiences I've been up to (all one or so of you), here's a brief update.

Here's some work I've done for my Design Fundamentals class:

Joseph Cornell box project. The assignment was to make a box that depicts waiting in the style of Joseph Cornell. Mine is waiting for sensation.

Random Sketch #1
Ok, so I never actually learned how to draw, so here's my first sucky attempt. It's a mega-handle for those of you who are wondering... a tool for working with lighting instruments.

Until next time!

Dramatic Gregio

So it seems everyone in the theater world these days has a "dramatic" photo of himself. Well, here's mine. Tell me what you think.
